Twenty percent of people with a single basal cell cancer will develop a second one at another site within a year. If there were two basal cell cancers, there is a 40 percent chance of developing a new one within one year. People who have had a skin lesion removed should, therefore, see their doctor twice a year for the first three years after treatment, followed by yearly visits.
